IT Governance

Brief Description and Learning Objectives:

IT governance refers to a wide range of technical and administrative actions undertaken with the main objectives of harmonizing the digital strategy with the business strategy of the companies / organizations, ensuring that the companies / organizations are committed to their strategies and goals and implementing the best practices for measuring the return on digital investment.

A digital governance framework should provide scientifically proven and convincing answers to key questions, such as the smooth operation of the IT department of the company / organization of any size, the key metrics of efficiency and effectiveness needed by management and the expected benefits. from investments in the digital technology of the company / organization. Therefore, every business / organization, small or large, public or private, needs a technical-administrative mechanism of digital governance that ensures that its digital operation supports its strategies and goals.

IT governance should be practiced by specially trained scientists who do not necessarily have as a basic background the broad field of digital technology but also the general background of administration and economics (eg administration, logistics and finance). Indeed, in practice it is exercised by mixed teams of technical and administrative staff with the task of drawing up and presenting a roadmap with a clear reference to where the organization is today in terms of digital, to be found in time and how it will go there, incorporating benefits, efficiency and accountability by reducing the risk of failure.

From the above, the need is demonstrated for the staffing of companies / organizations with people who have the appropriate knowledge and skills in various IT governance issues that, in essence, refer to the pre-development -development) and after the development (after-development) of digital technology in the company / organization. This specialization addresses these issues with an emphasis on digital strategy (IT strategy), digital innovation (IT innovation), best practices (IT best practices), standards (IT standards), managementdigital systems (project management), IT costing, risk management and service level agreements. Thus, the graduates of the department are expected to acquire significant knowledge and skills in the issues that compose IT governance.

In addition, the specialization aims to prepare its students for postgraduate studies at the doctoral level in a wide range of IT governance subjects.
